Capacity Building Workshop on ‘Safer Schools’ begins at KU | KNO

Srinagar, July 15 (KNO) : Department of Geography & Regional Development, University of Kashmir (KU) organised a week long Capacity Building Workshop on ‘Safer Schools’ which started here at KU on Monday. The workshop has been organised in collaboration with Jhelum & Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP), Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Institute of Disaster Risk Reduction (IDRR), University College London (UCL. According to a statement issued to KNO, the inaugural function of this workshop was held at KU`s Gandhi Bhawan auditorium which was presided over by Prof. Nilofer Khan, officiating Vice Chancellor KU in presence of Prof. Peter Sammonds, Director, IDRR, UCL, London, Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad Hakeem, Director, Planning & Coordination, JTFRP and Prof. M. Sultan Bhat, Dean School of Earth & Environmental Sciences. According to the organisers of the program the focus of the workshop is the capacity building of the concerned stakeholders so as to prepare a pool of the skilled trainers for the schools at the grassroot level. The program was attended by senior faculty members of the University as well as the participants of the workshop which included primary school teachers from Directorate of School Education, J &K Government. The technical sessions of the workshop would be conducted by eminent experts from, IDRR, UCL, London, National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar and University of Kashmir. The inaugural function was conducted by Dr. Javeed A. Rather, Organising Secretary of the workshop and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. M. Shafi Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography and Regional Development.(KNO)
